The fight against drug abuse in Bangladesh has taken a new turn in 2024. To raise awareness and save young generation from this dangerous path of drug addiction, the Government of Bangladesh has planned to implement daily anti-drug speeches in all educational institutions across the country.
Imagine this scenario: students line up for the national anthem, voices of children’s echoing in air. and after that before the day officially begins, a short, impactful message about the dangers of drug use hits their ears. This is the new reality for schools in Bangladesh, starting March 4th, 2024, as per a directive by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUSI) Tapan Kumar Das.
The Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUSI) has ordered regular anti-drug speeches in all educational institutions of the country. At the end of the national anthem, a short anti-drug speech should be given. The responsibility falls on the shoulders of school heads and representatives to deliver these concise yet powerful anti-drug speeches after the national anthem.
It is said in the notification that to strengthen the anti-drug campaign in all educational institutions including schools and colleges, the head or responsible representative of the educational institution will take the initiative to give a short anti-drug speech regularly after the national anthem. It was also asked to take the required actions to put this process into action.
Earlier, on February 14, a circular signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education Mosammat Rahima Akhtar issued a directive in this regard.
The government has given instructions to give regular anti-drug short speeches after the national anthem in all the educational institutions of the country.
A letter of instructions has recently been sent from the Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education to the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education to follow this new rules.
It is said that to strengthen the anti-drug campaign in all educational institutions including schools and colleges, the head/responsible representative of the educational institution will take the initiative to give a short anti-drug speech regularly after the national anthem. Before this, a letter of instructions was also sent to the Ministry of Education from the Department of Security Services of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Let’s be honest, memorizing facts and figures might not be the most captivating way to reach young minds. Implementing these anti-drug messages—rather than letting them linger—is the primary means of achieving success.
